Turbine Blade
Turbine blades are airfoils that make up the turbine body of gas and steam turbines used in aircraft engines and generators. The blades are classified by type: rotor vanes, which are connected to the rotor shaft and rotate, or stator vanes, which are set in the casing and do not rotate. Both types of blades are used in multiple stages within a turbine. There may be several hundred blades in a single turbine, depending on its size.
In engines and generators, steam or gas is converted into power as it pushes on the turbine blades to turn the rotor shaft. The turbine blades play an important role because they determine performance and fuel efficiency. However, because they are exposed to high temperatures and pressures for long periods, they are prone to deterioration and require routine maintenance.
