Mounting a part on a 3D board
This section introduces a solution for mounting a part on a 3D board utilizing Nikon’s robot vision, and shows the actual processes performed by a robot that utilizes Nikon’s robot vision: applying solder, picking and placing an ultra-small electronic part, and mounting it on the board.
Part mounting on 3D boards, for which there is increasing need
With the growing need for 3D-shaped boards that provide benefits in terms of cost, reliability, weight reduction, and design etc., there is an increasing need to mount electronic parts on the boards. As part of this need, there is also a need to mount parts on boards that are large or have a complex shape. Nikon provides a mounting system not constrained by board size or shape using a robot equipped with robot vision.

The target object or designated position on the board was accurately recognized by matching the information acquired by robot vision with the CAD data of the target object. As shown in the video, this enables operations from solder application, part picking and placing to laser soldering to be performed as a series of operations.
